JUNE 2025

We had a wonderful evening playing games and eating a delicious cream tea.

Our first game was to find the Film Title from a cryptic clue - the winners got 19 out of 20 correct.

Our second game was Human Bingo which meant all our members had to approach others to find out who the Bingo Clue related to.  A great way of mixing and getting to know other members.

MAY 2025

What an amazing display of MAY BONNETS from our wonderfully creative members.   Each table was given 2 bonnets to decorate and a large selection of materials, ribbons, flowers etc along with glue, Sellotape and scissors and 45 minutes in which to decorate their bonnets.  As you can see from the video, it was an amazing success with some beautiful bonnets being created.  The final 2 winners were judged by our outgoing Secretary, Elaine (who will be greatly missed by us all as she moves away from Thatcham next month).

FEBRUARY 2025

We had a fascinating talk on Estee Lauder Celebration Compacts.  As you can see from the photos they are all intrically decorated and in the UK they are only available from Harrods - or since lockdown online.

They either contain powder or perfume and are highly sought after as collector pieces.

January 2025

On the coldest night of the winter we had a wonderful turn out  for a fascinating talk by Sarah Somerville on her job ‘Working in Historic Houses in the 21st Century’.

She gave an entertaining and enthusiastic account of working at Highclere Castle for many years and where she is currently at Shaw House in Newbury which dates from the Elizabethan era. We were interested to learn about the filming for Downton at Highclere, cleaning of the chandeliers and her time spent in the Egyptology exhibition. Sarah showed us interesting photos of behind the scenes in Shaw House and the problems that need fixing, such as leaks and crows tearing up the lawn at night.
